Sapphire Windows Polishing |
Sapphire window is a crucial material widely used in a range of applications such as medical, optics, defense, aerospace, industry, and R&D. These applications demand stringent surface quality for sapphire windows. Due to its high mechanical strength and chemical inertness, polishing sapphire windows is extremely difficult and slow. Conventional polishing techniques, such as chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), often fail to maintain both high surface quality and a fast removal rate simultaneously. |
To enhance the removal rate and develop a cost-effective production process, HYT Sapphire Optics has explored various methods for processing sapphire windows. Through extensive experimentation, ultrasonic vibration has proven to be highly effective in polishing sapphire windows. Experimental results and analysis indicate that an ultrasonic vibration-assisted CMP system significantly improves the removal rate of sapphire substrates, approximately doubling the rate compared to traditional methods due to the added ultrasonic energy. |
In our CMP technique for polishing sapphire windows, we use SiO2 sol as the abrasive, with particle sizes ranging from 20-30 nm and a concentration of 40%. The pH value is maintained between 10.0 and 11.0. This optimized process ensures a balanced approach, achieving both high-quality surfaces and efficient material removal. |
Thanks to this developed technology, we have the capability to polish sapphire windows with diameters up to 200 mm, achieving surface accuracy up to 0.1 lambda and surface quality up to 20/10 MIL, while simultaneously maintaining parallelism within 5 arc seconds. |
Our advanced polishing techniques ensure that sapphire windows meet the rigorous demands of various high-performance applications, providing exceptional quality and reliability. |
